Sen. Michael E. Hastings

MATTESON – State Senator Michael E. Hastings is excited to announce that the Village of Matteson is set to receive $26.6 million in investments to improve local roads and highways.

“Our highways and roads serve as a lifeline,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort). “These improvements to I-57, US 30 and Central Avenue will connect residents with economic opportunities, education and health services and improve our quality of life.”

As part of IDOT’s latest Multi-Year Plan under Rebuild Illinois, Matteson, which Hastings represents, will see nine infrastructure projects totaling more than $26 million over the next six years.

“This will make a tremendous impact on the Southland Region, and the Village of Matteson is appreciative of State Senator Hastings’ efforts,” said Matteson Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin.

Some of the vital projects coming to the area include:

  • More than $22 million in improvements to I-57
  • Nearly $3.5 million for various projects along US 30
  • $2.3 million for reconstruction on Central Avenue
  • $364,000 for a traffic signal installation on Matteson Avenue

These projects are part of IDOT’s multi-year plan, a $40 billion investment in construction projects for the next six fiscal years. The project invest in all modes of transportation: roads and bridges, aviation, transit, freight and passenger rail, waterways, as well as bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

“Sound roads, highways and bridges lay down a stable foundation to spur endless economic development opportunities,” Hastings said. “These investments in our region will provide us with modern, efficient and reliable infrastructure for years to come.”
