FRANKFORT — State Senator Michael E. Hastings announced today a $7.5 million capital improvement grant to the Frankfort Park District, marking a milestone in the community’s ongoing master plan to enhance and expand recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.

“This is a landmark moment for Frankfort,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort). “When we invest in our parks, we invest in the quality of life for our families, our seniors, and our children. This new funding ensures that Frankfort continues to grow as a destination for recreation, community gatherings, and healthy living for generations to come.”

The investment, secured through a strong cooperative partnership between Senator Hastings and the Frankfort Park District, will advance the next phase of the district’s master plan, focusing on space optimization and enhancements to Commissioner’s Park.

This new grant builds upon past successful collaborations between Senator Hastings and the Frankfort Park District, including earlier funding that made possible the Frankfort Splash Pad and Fort Frankfort, two projects that have become cherished destinations for families throughout the South Suburbs.

Hastings also expressed his appreciation for the leadership of Michael McCarey, president of the Frankfort Park District Board of Commissioners, thanking him for his dedication to the park district and his commitment to delivering exceptional recreational spaces for residents.

The announcement follows a series of recent park and trail improvements championed by Hastings:

  • $1.6 million Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program Grant, announced earlier this year, connecting Commissioner’s Park directly to the Old Plank Trail.
  • Old Plank Trail upgrades, including enhancements along the Prairie Path to improve safety, accessibility, and aesthetics.
  • Prairie Park improvements, with a $650,000 investment to revitalize one of Frankfort’s most beloved green spaces.

The Frankfort Park District’s master plan is designed to improve the functionality, accessibility, and beauty of local parks while preserving the community’s natural charm. By coordinating state and local resources, the plan leverages funding opportunities to maximize impact.

“Frankfort is a beautiful town with engaged and committed neighbors,” Hastings said. “When we create spaces that bring people together, whether it is a playground, a trail, or a splash pad, we strengthen the fabric of our community. These investments will benefit not just Frankfort, but the entire South Suburbs.”
