StColetta Visit

TINLEY PARK — State Senator Michael E. Hastings announced that St. Coletta’s of Illinois has been awarded a $150,000 capital grant through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The funding will support critical infrastructure improvements at the nonprofit’s Tinley Park campus.

“This $150,000 investment is not just about improving facilities — it’s about strengthening an organization that is central to our community,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort). “By upgrading St. Coletta’s infrastructure, we are ensuring that residents with developmental disabilities and families in need of mental health care have access to safe, modern spaces where they can receive the care and support they deserve.”

Founded to serve individuals with developmental disabilities, St. Coletta’s of Illinois provides residential programs, vocational training, educational opportunities, and community engagement initiatives. The organization also operates outpatient mental health services, accepting Medicaid patients to ensure access for families across the south suburbs.

According to St. Coletta’s leadership, the funds will be used to complete long-overdue infrastructure projects, enabling the organization to improve its facilities while continuing to focus resources on client care and programming. Heather Benedick, CEO of St. Coletta’s, said the grant will have a lasting impact.

“This award allows us to move forward with much-needed infrastructure work that will enhance our ability to serve clients for years to come,” said Benedick. “We are grateful for Senator Hastings’ advocacy and the State of Illinois’ commitment to supporting people with developmental disabilities and mental health needs.”

Hastings emphasized that investing in community-based providers remains one of his top priorities in Springfield, noting that organizations like St. Coletta’s are essential to the health and well-being of families in the south suburbs.
